I'm pretty sure that the day I put on a pair of freshly laundered jeans is my least favorite day of the week/month/year.

Dear Midwest...

I've never been one for fashion pet peeves. I've been wearing footless tights since before they were in style, like skinny jeans because they fit my legs, hips, AND waist, and really only shop trends because it usually means something I like is more easily accessible. I've never been one for fashion pet peeves... until I moved to the Midwest.
So I present to you an open letter.

Dear Population of an Unnamed Mid-Sized College Town in the Mid-West,
Despite changes in the weather, it is unacceptable to wear some combination of the following outfit (unless it is midnight and you are running to the store for smokes or tampons):

1. Flip Flops or Uggs, paired with
2. Sweatpants, leggings, or pajama bottoms, topped by
3. A ratty wife beater or oversized college sweatshirt, finished with
4. A full face of make-up and perfectly "messed" hair.

Sadly, this outfit is quite dominant in our city. Individually, I may not have problems with many of these items. Leggings can be great under dresses and skirts, especially in the winter when tights are too thin. Uggs can be warm, comfortable, and cozy on cold winter days, when the roads are caked with snow and ice (heck, I'm even tempted to buy myself a pair for that reason alone). During the summer time I practically live in wife beaters, and often think that nothing is sexier on a woman.

But in combination, these pieces create a sloppy look that shows you have little concern for your personal appearance. It isn't more time consuming or difficult to put on a pair of jeans, and you'll look 100x better instantly. And if it's really cold, a wife beater and leggings contradict the warmth provided by your precious Ugg boots. Girls, have a little pride in your appearance!

Signed,
A Dramatic Mischief
