Sunday's Satisfactions

Sunday's Satisfactions

1. Scoring tickets to see Bob Dylan/Elvis Costello/Amos Lee in October and Rent in November.

2. "Artistic" Integrity. I went to buy some of my favorite goat's cheese at the Farmer's Market yesterday; the seller said they had two batches of it, but that it wasn't being sold because it wasn't up to his wife's standards (it being not salty enough/too salty). He then gave me a large chunk of it for free, as long as I didn't tell on him. It was refreshing to see that they put so much pride in their product, that they weren't going to sell it just to make a buck, but were so wonderfully willing to give some away because I wanted it so badly.

3. The arrival of Autumn! That crisp Autumn bite is in the air, the wind has turned, and it's so lovely to be outside. I'm ready to break out my old riding styled boots, scarves, and lightweight coats. Autumn really is my most fashionable season.

4. Spending Sunday's making beautiful & delicious food, catching up on great TV, spending time with my best boy-mate. Filet Mignons, garlic and goat cheese mashed potatoes, rosemary and onion focaccia, and blanched asparagus! Yum!

5. Being included in the Fabulous! Festival, hosted at All About Appearances. This is my first blog carnival, and I'm excited to have been involved! Not to mention, there are some great posts; my favorites include Autumnal Hats at Hattastic, How to Wear Colorful Make-up at Jumble Life (and boy oh boy do I advocate colorful make-up!), and Une Femme d'un Certain Age's take on color, neutrality, and black and white film.

Sunday's Satisfactions

Here's what I hope will become a regular topic, my Sunday's Satisfactions-- the things in life, fashion, the arts, and the world that brought a smile to my face and a tiny bit more pleasure to my life.

1. The arrival of my coveted John Fluevog Listen Up Jade booties (in peacock). The site was sold out, Zappos.com was sold out, so I enlisted the help of a company wide search; this was scary, however, as the reviews I have read had said they were about a size too small. What size was I supposed to search for?! I typically wear an 8-8.5, so did I look for a 9, or a 9.5? Luckily, the only size of either was available in beloved Chicago (a size 9.5). I've done a bit of prancing in the house, and I think they'll work. I really do. (And now I anxiously scheme for another pair to buy...)

2. Friday night's opening gallery reception for Libby Bulloff's show, Pipe Dream. Libby is the lovely owner of Exoskeleton Cabaret, and her reception was one of those glorious events that reminds me why I am pursuing the career path I am. To see the support, revelry, and joy at an artist's first gallery reception is a wonderful experience for me.

3. A menswear vest and the Babydoll Coat from Old Navy. I love the edge that a vest gives to a woman's outfit, and how it instantly dresses it up that much more. The Babydoll Coat is the perfect way to indulge myself in my needs for comfort, coziness and warmth on brisk Autumn and Winter days, without falling in to the pits of Ugg Boots and oversized Indiana University sweatshirts.

4. This "Reverse Graffiti" video. Graffiti is one of my big visual arts loves, and I fully support the genuine artists who reside as street artists. I find this video beautiful and heartbreaking, and a sad testament to how street artists are received (and how the local government's only excuse to take care of their city is by destroying a piece of art).

5. Winning a pair of long coveted (several years) black & pink heart Irregular Choice wedges on Ebay! And they didn't cost me an arm and leg!

6. Knowing I have not one, but two stunning dresses en route from Trashy Diva! The Ashley Dress in Chocolate Floral (it's my namesake dress!) and the Asia Holiday Day Dress. I love those girls at Trashy Diva!

7. That this Sunday is my first glorious, lazy, completely free (and homework ridden) day off since August 19th! I'm looking forward to reading, cooking, and drinking lots of tea on this (much needed) overcast and raining day!
