I’ve coveted Miz Mooz shoes for awhile now– my girl friend Kara from Bloomington turned me on to them.  They combine the uniqueness of John Fluevogs at 1/3 of the cost with the comfort of Jeffrey Campbells or Corso Comos.

Miz Mooz sent along the Tillman heel– and what a gorgeous little heel it is.  Modest height (an easy 3″… you can barely tell), supple and soft grey pebbled leather, and feisty lattice design. From a front top view, these guys almost look like ballet slippers laced up…

Not only that– but these bad boys are PADDED.  Like holy crap are they padded and comfortable.  They’re easily up there with Jeffrey Campbell and Corso Como when it comes to how well cushioned these lovelies are. I think the rounded toe helps in the comfort category as well– having a slightly wide foot, these fit so, so well…

As a result of my instant love of the Tillman, you can only guess what that means? Covet & lust time!  I’d like to add the Miz Mooz Tisch (love the elastic straps and soft suede), Miz Mooz Zia (God, I love those studs… so great on a dance floor! though the Beau hates them), and the Miz Mooz Hadley (which may be the most perfect, basic pair of black oxfords).

My lady, Miss Malaprop, along with one of her amazing designers, John Doherty Design + Iron, were super awesome to offer to host a giveaway for one of his beautiful stainless steel fleur de lis necklaces (see picture below).

To be frank, I’m really a bit jealous of this giveaway, as I’ve been coveting one of these babies for ages! Our girl friend Jene has his hurricane fleur de lis necklace as a tattoo, and despite how cliche SOME people think it is, I love the fleur de lis as a symbol of everything New Orleans has overcome with Hurricane Katrina.

A few words with John Doherty

Describe the girl/guy who loves your accessories:
My Twisted Fleur de Lis pendants are worn by men and women  across the spectrum but most have an extremely strong connection to the City of New Orleans and several suffered heavy losses from Hurricane Katrina.

What are your inspirations?
The Twisted Fleur de Lis sculpture and jewelry designs were a natural result of an upbringing in the New Orleans area but the ideas didn’t  get transferred to actual metal until the weeks following Hurricane Katrina.  I was, as many from the area were, very concerned about friends and relatives that were unaccounted for as well as the condition of their homes. I felt making the earliest versions of this fleur de lis was a constructive diversion at the time.

If you could put any piece from your collection on the body of any person, which piece on who, and why?
That is an easy one for me.  It would have to be Drew Brees, wearing the “Twisted Fleur de Lis” pendant in stainless steel or possibly gold.  My design was created while New Orleans was underwater and Drew Brees along with the Saints contributed greatly in lifting the spirit of the city out of the muck.

If you could create a collection, without cost, supplies, and inspiration holding you back, what elements would we see in it?
I could envision the use of new or additional materials and the designs would naturally have to follow the properties of these materials.  I do have interest in exploring titanium as well as non-metallic elements.

What can we expect in your upcoming collections?
I have plans for a few more pendant designs in stainless steel but other than that, I’ll just have to see what strikes me at that time.

Spring is in the air, and I don’t know about you– but I’m looking forward to shedding the after effects of Winter and brightening up my life.  It’s a time when I want to push away the dark denim, heavy wool, and black black black for things more vibrant.

Michelle, the candy colored Austinite at Wicked Whimsy has the perfect solution for those seasonal transitions–times when, if you’re like me, you feel in a bit of a rut and aren’t quite sure how your style has changed in the past few months.  Her new business, Style Therapy, offers online style consultations, priced and packaged to suit your individual needs (or style crises).

What is Style Therapy?
It’s not a “what not to wear” or “oh you’re an hourglass, you should buy this” or “this is what’s in this season” sort of thing. At all. It’s about figuring out how to express your style, while working around any issues or constraints you might have. It’s about you and your style being one happy whole instead of two pissed off parties fighting with each other.

The Remodel Package is:
I’ll send you the questionnaire to fill out along with any additional questions or difficulties you might have. Then we’ll set up a time to chat, which can be via Skype, instant messenger, or whatever works for you. We’ll chat for 30 minutes, I’ll record it and email it to you, and I’ll be available to help you via email for the next 3 days if you want any more help or follow-up. This would work best for someone who’s generally feeling uninspired, or who has a specific obstacle, but something a little larger in scope than the above examples – things that might take a bit longer to cover.

I also asked Michelle a few questions about Style Therapy, to get your style palettes wet…
Why Style Therapy?
Style Therapy, the service, came about because I was looking at other styling services and most of them were focused on helping people update their wardrobes to appear trendier or helping people to make their wardrobes more “flattering”, a la What Not to Wear. These are both good and well for people who’re looking for that sort of service, but the idea of either option doesn’t appeal to me at all. My philosophy of style and fashion is that what you wear is an expression of who you are and what you’re about, and sometimes people get a little stuck figuring out how to best express themselves with what they wear.  “Style Therapy” the name came because I thought it best summed up the image I was trying to convey – something that involves all of you and not just your looks!

How would you respond to someone who may be put off by your “alternative” appearance and think that you may be too wild for their very different style?
Well, I would personally tell them that just because I look one way doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate people who dress differently :) I can certainly appreciate that others’ tastes might be more toned down, so to speak, than mine, and I can work within those boundaries. After all, I’m helping clients express themselves, not myself.

What do you hope someone takes away from Style Therapy?
The end goal of Style Therapy is for the recipient to walk away with a clear head about their style and a direction to go in with it. I want to help you remove any obstacles in the path to you and your style being one happy whole instead of two warring halves!
