What I Wore: It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got that Swing

One of Garren’s best friends came into town, so we used it as a chance to have a bff (fine dining) dinner date.  We hit up one of the restaurants we’re looking into for our wedding reception (Apolline in New Orleans) and dolled up.  (Because who doesn’t need a chance to dress up every once in awhile. It’s good for the soul.)

It’s also proof that we both clean up well!

And own something other than t-shirts and jeans!

The cheesecake shot & Prom-pose shot.

My bff (Mallory) also joined us, making it an excellent chance to get some photos with Garren.  Even though he and I have been together off and on for 8.5 years, we don’t actually have a lot of “couples” photos. I’m glad that we rectified this! (And that Mal did such a damn good job catching cute pictures of us.)

This print, the Big Band Bows, is one of my favorites at Trashy Diva right now– I also have it in the Doll Mini Dress.  I love the vibrant primary colors and the gorgeous red waist (plus the 1940s is one of my favorite styles there– it’s perfect!).

The Something Blue Manolo Blahniks Garren bought me go so beautifully with it, I couldn’t resist pulling them out for their first wear.  While they’re technically my wedding shoes, I’d like to get them worn just a bit before the big day. The idea of wearing new, unworn, and painful shoes at my wedding seems like a nightmare!

ANNNDDD…. this is probably my favorite photo of us. EVER. AND THAT EVER WILL BE.

What I Wore:
Trashy Diva 1940s Dress in Big Band Bows
Something Blue (Hangisi) Manolo Blahniks
Pearl Earrings (similar) / Brilliant Earth Halo Engagement Ring
Michael Kors Runway Watch

You’re so sweet, Gracey! That va-va-factor is why I love Trashy Diva dresses so much…. I always feel my best in them!

Thank you, Franca! That last is my favorite as well :)

And you should definitely find a good reason to doll up a bit and go out, especially with le bambino! I can only imagine how hard or fruitless it could feel, but it’s important to give yourself some love and attention too. :)

You guys look super adorable! That dress is super cute and that necklace is to die for! (I’m such an accessory addict! :) )

Isn’t that necklace insane?! I found it on Hautelook for about $35 and was like, “I SO NEED THIS.” (In that picture, I was holding it for Mallory & saying, “I keep threatening to wear this during our wedding, and Garren tells me go for it!” She was weirded out, to say the least.)

I found your blog through IFB and you are so cute! I like that you have super fun and natural pictures of yourself instead of mostly posing. It’s good to find new blogs to read that are original! I’m jealous of your something blue Manolo’s! They look so cute with that dress!

You’re too, too sweet Hannah! Thank you so much! I try taking clear photos, but at the same time… super posed & stiff really isn’t my nature. Sometimes I feel like a living muppet! So it makes more sense to just be silly & have fun (hard not to when I have the funniest people behind the camera)…
As for those Something Blue’s… to be honest, I still can’t believe I own them!!

Too freaking cute! I love but don’t own anything in the big band bows…yet.

Is Apolline as good as it looks on the website? I need somewhere new to eat next time I am there, and haven’t tried as many places in that part of town.

Ashley April 17, 2013 at 3:33 pm

Hahah, yes is exactly right! I’d probably own the Jaclyn too, if it fit/looked right on me.

Apolline… is good. If I were going to recommend a place it would be Coquette (also on Magazine at Washington). We went on Valentine’s Day & it was AMAZING. Every course was delicious and equal to one another. Apolline was one of those places where each course wasn’t on par with the one before it, and certain dishes could have used a little more salt & seasoning….

What a great use of your ::amazing:: wedding shoes and such a great idea to break them in… I did not do this and can tell you, it hurt!! Love your dress as well, such a fun outfit!

Oooh, you’re the first one to confirm my fear about non-broken in wedding shoes! I tend not to wear a lot of heels–especially stilettos and I knew that it just seemed like it could be a disaster waiting to happen… and hell, why wait another year to wear them!?

And thank you so much for the sweet words!

I love Trashy Diva but why oh why is it so expensive?! That’s a great dress and it looks like you two had a great time.

Reply

Ashley April 19, 2013 at 7:43 am

Thank you, Desiree! Trashy Diva is definitely on the more expensive side, but TOTALLY worth it. I try to save up to buy them (they’re always #1 on my shopping list!) or wait for some kind of sale… those little 20% off sales or when they’re done to $60 totally makes a difference, too!
