The Dramatis Personae: Wedding Winter Wonderland

by Ashe on January 9, 2012

One of the reasons the Beau and I headed up to Indiana for the holidays was for his sister’s wedding on December 23rd.  Tell a girl to dress for a high mass Catholic Christmas wedding, and she’ll balk.  Even more when the Beau goes, “Mmm, that dress doesn’t flatter you in X spot,” and you’ve suddenly got an outfit ruined.  An outfit you planned down to your nail color and jewelry.

I opted for this Dorothy Perkins Kimono dress, because I thought the cream background and the dark, but vibrant colors seemed right for a winter wedding.   This outfit ended up being one I received many compliments on– only to realize the dress photographs in the most unflattering way!

More importantly– the newly wedded couple are so happy and she looked stunning (her hair was AMAZING).  Though we do tease her now that she’ll never get to celebrate her wedding anniversary!

I love that dress — sometimes even when you feel great in an outfit it doesn’t translate to photos I find. But you look happy wearing it, so that counts, right??

That I do! It’s super comfortable & easy to move in, but pretty– which means it’s better than my standard jeans & black t-shirt ;)

I think that dress looks gorgeous, what are you talking about?
I just discovered Dorothy Perkins myself and adore the designs….and the price point.
You had me excited with the headline – I thought congratulations were in order!

Haha, you can’t see it from the side! Gives a bit of a maternity look :/

Dorothy Perkins has great prices & designs– I’ve just found that I ship back most things and return shipping gets SO expensive. It keeps me from shopping there too often.

No, no congratulations yet– though it’s been in the talks!

It was nice, that’s for sure! A good place to visit, but I don’t want to live there again ;) What are you headed back for?

Reply

Lindsay January 10, 2012 at 10:50 am

Unfortunately I’m headed back for some family emergencies. I whole-heartedly agree with you. It’s fine for visiting, but no way I could ever live there again without going insane.

Oh! I’m so sorry to hear that, Lindsay. I hope the emergency smooths over easily and that your time ends up being brief & filled with goodness. xoxo

Thank you, sweetness! (And by new hair, you mean new hair + 4″ of roots. I’ve actually changed the color again, but may go back to the strawberry blonde soon!)

The Vampire Diana was my “you paid of 2 credit cards, here’s a nice treat!” treat. Worth it!

Dude. LEMME TELL YOU. I went from 1 dress that got vetoed to him giving me 5 FLIPPIN’ OPTIONS. I was like, “NO. It does not work this way!” I was worried I OD’d on accessories, but when else do I wear that many? It was fun.

Loving the kimono dress, I’ve been trolling the Dorothy Perkins site for some time but haven’t taken the plunge. Nice to see something styled on a real person.

I love your outfit posts!!

I love Dorothy Perkins, but the return shipping costs always kick my ass & prevent me from ordering more stuff. I hoped with the US site they’d at least have a US distribution center, but nope. (I’ve seriously spent $30 on returning things… that just eats up too much of my budget!)

And thank you, lovely lady!

Thank you, Mary! The tote is perfect for traveling– easy to fit a camera, several books, and those pesky ziplocs of liquids!

I hate when I love a dress and it’s photographs weird. I still wear it, but I experiment with angles in case someone photos me.

I think you look cute though. And Web Lace ring wonder twins unite! (yep, I’m that old)

That’s a great idea about experimenting with angles! I definitely need to figure out a few “poses” that work well for me and showcase my outfits great.

(Yay, Web Lace twinsies! It’s such a good, good ring!)

I hate it when beloved pieces that make you feel amazing don’t photograph well! The colours and print do look great on you though; it’s no wonder you received so many compliments at the wedding.
