If I Were Another Girl… In Florals & Ruffles

by Ashe on March 2, 2011

Ruffle Front Floral Dress from eShakti, $54.95

I’ve been on an eShakti binge lately, getting 4 dresses in the last month. (Thanks, tax return!)  I’m not much of a dress girl, but I keep thinking of the summer ahead, looking appropriate at work, and wanting something cool and comfortable to wear (especially since my car has no A.C.).

I like this dress.  A lot.  But it confuses me– is it me? Or is it me if I were another girl?

The Beau weighed in.

Me: I like this, but I don’t know that it is me

Beau: it is interesting.  I dont think its you either

Me: I’m also in one of those weird phases. Where… like I don’t know what my style is anymore. On one hand it makes me more adventurous, and also makes me more confused as to whether I’d wear something or not. The ruffles are very me…I think it’s the neckline and floral that’s throwing me. But I like the floral on it.

What do you think? Ashe friendly, or better suited for another girl?

I love the dark floral print and the ruffles too (though, I always sort of feel like a court jester when I wear ruffles). Though the neckline might take a little getting used to…I say go for it!

Yeah, the neckline is worrysome… because I don’t do strapless bras, so would my bra straps show? I wonder if I could pin them…

I have another eShakti dress I got with LOADS of ruffles– it’s kind of overwhelming.

But then I start thinking I’m a flower, and one of those singing flowers in Alice in Wonderland, and I suddenly feel less self-conscious ;D

I think its incredibly cute and I think you should go for it!

They sell those things that pull your bra straps together in the back for racerback tops. It may work, but you may still have to pin them. I usually avoid clothes that require a lot of work to simply wear them but if you’re feeling like stepping outside the box, it’s a really pretty dress!

Oh, that’s SUCH a good tip about the bra strap hooks! Normally, I’m really with you on clothes– I want them easy to wear… but I think I’ve gotten too easy with my clothes, and just don’t put enough time in to how I look….

I think you could pull it off, and if you need to like… tone it down a little for work or whatever, you could toss a cute cardigan over top!

I work in theatre, not a whole lot of “toning down” needed ;) But I like the cardigan idea!

It’s really cute, but the neckline is what throws me as well.

I haven’t purchased from eShakti yet, but I know you can customize things that you purchase from them… could you do a different neckline on the dress? I love the ruffles and the pattern is cute. It’s just the neckline that I don’t think works well…

You know, for some reason this dress doesn’t have customizing available. Because I TOTALLY went to look to see if I could do it with a different neck line.

damnable.

Ooh, I think that dress is totally adorable… I recently bought a couple of Eshakti dresses (thanks to your code!!!) and one of the dresses I bought has a similar neckline – I’m a little nervous about the whole bra thing, as well. I figure if I really hate it, I can always return it.

Out of curiosity, how long did you have to wait for your dresses? Also, do you find that they wrinkle a lot? I’ve heard some rather negative things about the dresses, they wrinkle horribly, the fabric isn’t great, it doesn’t drape, etc … I’d like to get your take on it.

On average, I think it’s been about a week to week & half to receive them? When they arrive, I’ve found them to be somewhat wrinkled, esp at the bottom of the dress, but the wrinkles usually seem to fall out hanging in the closet for a few days. But I haven’t yet worn them more than once (since I just got most of them). I feel like the fabric seems average compared to what you’d find in the stores. One dress I got had a nice sateen cotton, so it was dressier… but I’ve felt like these have all draped and fit well! You’ll have to let me know when your dresses arrive how you like them!

That’s all very comforting, thank you. :) I was mostly worried that I’d be waiting weeks and weeks to receive them.

I picked up the surplice front cotton twill dress in black and the bow tied neck cotton twill dress in crimson. I soooo can’t wait to get them!!

That print reminds me of a summer dress I have. Mine doesn’t have the ruffles though, and it’s got straps instead of the curved neckline. I wasn’t sure it was my type of thing before I bought it (in a charity shop last year) either, but I love it now.

Sometimes when my style is changing I’m not sure about some of the items I’m picking out at first, but when I actually have them I love them!

I like it but sometimes ruffles on a chesty girl can be too much. Not that I sit there and analyze your cleavage with every picture you post, so I could be wrong about your *ahem* girls.

Oddly, I look bustier than I really am. My cup size is only a B, but I have a pretty big ribcage and back… so I like to use ruffles to make me look chestier! It could be a Cancer thing though, I’ve read we like to show off our boobs.

Ashe- I’ve looked at eshakti for quite a while but I’m hesitant to purchase. Would you say the measurement/sizing are accurate? Also, can I say that I LOVE this dress!

Reply

Ashe March 8, 2011 at 8:39 pm

Hey Lauren– I definitely feel that they’re accurate. From the sizes I’ve ordered, they fit very well for off the rack sizing (which is what I’ve mostly been doing). I’m always weary of ordering clothes because I feel like I’m bad at measuring myself (and find myself falling between sizes), so I went a size up and feel like they fit perfectly!

While I can’t say that I’ve ever seen you in something like this (I’d say it’s more my style), you could totally pull it off!

Go for it!

Yes, it does seem like your style from what I’ve seen! It’s got elements that I think could be my style.. and ones that definitely aren’t…

I just received this code in the mail good for $20 off your order at Eshakti and I thought I would pass it along because it can be used an unlimited amount of times!

“Tell your friends about eShakti and give them $20 to shop with us! Here is a unique code bearing your name ShannonUnwin87. Send this code to as many friends as you want and they can redeem the $20 against their first purchase on eShakti.”

Yay!
