10 Ways to Feel Better Today

  1. Add on a few extra accessories– or to hell with it, pile them on! When I’m feeling lazy, rushed, and stressed (which has become 90% of my year so far), my outfits tend to get dull and boring.  Popping on a few extra accessories before leaving the house (or having them stashed in your purse for days like this) make me feel better when I catch myself in a mirror during your bathroom break.
  2. Do a quick warm-up. I love the one from Carmen Electra’s Striptease Aerobics.  I always feel all the bones in my back pop and my muscles stretch.  And I can tell when I’m doing them correctly because I feel a strength in my unused muscles (like my abs!).
  3. Eat your favorite fresh fruit or veggie.  For me, it’s strawberries– preferably local! They’re so sweet, bite-sized, and always just make me stop and savor the moment.
  4. Step away from the internet.  You heard me! Take a break. I find by the end of the night I’m exhausted from being online, and then I end up rinsing & redoing the next day.  Take an internet siesta!  Don’t peek at your emails on your phone, either.  Take a walk after a rainstorm (or walk to get a sundae, always a favorite of mine!), cozy up with a glass of wine and a book, or spend some time doing some much needed cleaning.
  5. Nourish your soul.  Spend your lunch break searching for poetry or information on a new artist.  Watch a film in a genre you’d never consider before.  Learn the names of all of the Muses and what they were muse of.
  6. Make out with someone.  Think I’m kidding? Find a cute guy or gal at a bar. Pin down your partner on the couch.  Revel in the fun that is kissing–and JUST kissing.  There’s something so innocent, fresh, and playful about it.
  7. Write a quick “Universal Grocery List.”  I’ve grabbed a pretty little notebook where I can start writing down each day the things that make me smile, feel good, and feel grateful throughout the day.  (Especially after just getting out of that not-so stellar meeting.)  Keep an eye on the ones that you see recurring– and make sure to incorporate them in each day!
  8. Have a 30 minute “Favorite Scenes in Movies Ever” moment.  Take a mini break from life and indulge yourself in your favorite scenes ever– mine include the Masquerade in Labyrinth, the ending of The Lady from Shanghai, any scene in Earth Girls are Easy, and the end of Jurassic Park when the sign falls saying, “When Dinosaurs ruled the Earth” (among others!).
  9. Clip some coupons; Save some cash.  Nothing excites me more than saving money, because it means I have more money to spend on other amazing things (or saving for even better things!)
  10. Treat someone else.  It’s not something I do as often as I’d like, but nothing makes me feel better than treating someone else– buying coffee on a date with my girlfriends, taking my students to lunch at the end of a long semester (or splurging for the occasional pizza & cupcake party!), or buying cupcakes for my D&D game.  There’s just something gratifying about sharing with people you love.

Such a refreshing entry! I agree with number one. I always think, “What would Rachel Zoe wear?” when I put on accessories.

I never thought you could feel better by treating somebody else. Maybe I should try that! It would get my mind off of things… Thanks for the tips you listed, I’m definitely going to try some out of my regular routine. Totally unrelated, but those pink strawberries at the top look delicious!

the BEST of these suggestions is stepping away from the internet. It makes me feel the same way you describe and causes my upper back to ache.

Why eating honey macadamias is not on this list, I will never know.
Or any nut in general really! There’s something about the good fats in nuts that makes your brain feel super wonderful. Oh, and also chocolate! But the intense cocoa kind.
Lovely post!

I’m always open to additions! Those can easily be replaced for the fresh fruit… I just wrote which I prefer (and haven’t had honey macadameias!).

Oh my goodness, you just totally made my day with that scene in The Labyrinth! I love this song so much, I bought the soundtrack. I always wished that I could be Jennifer Connelly so I could dance with David Bowie. My heart flutters just thinking about it.

Ahh! Girl you and ME BOTH. It’s one of my favorites ever (erm, obviously). I always joke that I want to recreate that scene if I got married. Which is ridiculous.

Here I was about to suggest getting laid, and you give me sweet kissing. Aw Ashe! I feel all jaded now. But I can live with that. And I love your list! Been thinking of doing poledancing for exercise. Will report back. :)

Heels are my “happy” accessories.
Sadly, you need to have someone to makeout with, I mean I could just grab anyone off the street but, what would the neighbors say.

Great post. I will definitely have to make sure to visit here often :)
