Over the years, I’ve enjoyed countless conversations with many of my Twitter gals on our beloved Spike–the hottie bleached blondie bear from the cult classic, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. BtVS came out when I was 13-14 years old, and it was probably one of the first female-empowered shows I watched. When it came out, I was obviously ecstatic, as I was in love with the original film (and David Arquette) for years before.
An aside– I always get irritated when people go, “Are you in to that Twilight stuff?” because no, I am not in to Twilight. But I LOVE vampire stories, and have since I was quite young (The Lost Boys, John Carpenter’s Vampires, BtVS: the original movie were all favorites of mine growing up). So it’s irritating to think that my love of vampire stories is based on some “sparkle sparkle!” when clearly it goes back so far beyond that. There is a world of vampires outside of Twilight people! And outside of True Blood, too!
I spent much time with my amorous intents backing back and forth, and still do. 14 year old Ashe in her JNCOs and oversized Superman t-shirts loved the wit and awkwardness of Xander and the cool stoicism of Oz (plus the fact he was in a band was super hot).
As I’ve grown older, I hold a nostalgia for both guys, but ultimately find my romantic interest torn (as in real life) between the mature-geek-chic-but-deadly Giles (really, the where he kills Ben with his bare hands was a turning point in my lust for him, because I like my men with a sharp but unseen edge) and the bad-boy-with-a-heart-of-gold Spike.
I’d gladly take a seat between this pair, with a cup of green tea, please.
So as a friend visited today and sang “Rest in Piece,” I was struck by an image. An image of a heart…with a spike plunged through it. What was this vision? It was Wendy Brandes Vampire Diana ring, modified to be a fitting and flattering tribute to Spike, vampire god amongst fan girls and pained lover and fighter among the vampires-with-soul.
To be honest, I’m completely sick for myself that I’d forgotten about this ring. How could I forget one of Wendy’s finest creations? Especially as one who participated in that faithful Facebook poll that sealed its fate and creation? Needless to say… I’m back up to saving my pennies, because this ring WILL be on my fingers one day.

Ugh. I love it, but I’m putting all my pennies toward a motorcycle right now. That would look damn good on my clutch hand though.

Oh, I’ve been in love with Spike for years myself! (But was already past 30, heh) I hadn’t seen this ring before – cool! Never got into Angel..he lacked the humour and twinkle-in-his-eye.

Everytime I see that episode I get SO girly and all “AWWW!” and freaked over how cute the kittens are.
Oh my. That picture of Spike and Giles makes me drool a little bit. Spike is probably my number one fictional crush; I don’t normally do the “(fictional character) is SO HOT.” thing, but um, Spike is. period. more drool.

Well, this just threw me into a fit of nostalgia. I have no idea how I missed the facebook action…other than I’m never on facebook, but damn, I love that ring. It’s probably 10x more glorious in person as all of Wendy’s stuff tends to be.

That ring is effin fabulous.. Yess! I LOVE BtVS.. This vamp obsession, I’ve noticed, comes back every once in a while…I remember when BtVS was a new series there were ALOT of fictional vampire books out as well..
What episode was it that Giles killed Ben? I do not remember…
