Trashy Diva: Fab Footware in the French Quarter

by Ashley on December 6, 2010

Fact: I’ve been kind of avoiding the Trashy Diva shoe store since it opened. I’ve popped in a few times, but I never let myself touch the shoes, and I certainly haven’t tried them on. (Even more real fact: did you know that touching an item makes you more inclined to want to buy it? Not scientifically proven fact: OR disinclined, if you’re me and hate the way lots of cheap fabrics feel.)

Fact: When I went in to the Trashy Diva shoe store, Miss Malaprop was working. Which was just the excuse I needed to try on shoes take pictures of the store.

The window display is a colorful Candyland meets Katy-Perry-land of crochet confectionary, colorful pom poms, and playful nod to the holidays, Sugar Plum faeries, and oh-my-god, shoes!

I’ve seen these Irregular Choice Little Miss O in other colors and wasn’t interested.  Then I saw them in the leopard and black combination. Part of me thought they were hideous, but part of me was so attracted to them.  Then I put them on and fell in love. There’s something about them, when on, that reminds me of little old lady shoes. Or trendy blogger shoes.  They manage to pull together some trends I love, but in a practical, wearable way. (They’re surprisingly comfortable, too!)

pink studios shoes, miss i-fire shoes, trashy diva shoes

I’ve been eyeballing these purple heart Miss L Fire shoes since I literally moved back to New Orleans. The vibrant purple color, the cute heart detailing, and a really practical heel (they’re probably about 2.5-3″).  They’ve totally won me over.  I stupidly tried them on, and find myself coveting them more ALL of the time now…

I love the Irregular Choice Oz in the red/blue combo (how Pucci-meets-Pilgrim-meets-Marie Antoinette!).  There’s a rumor that the Magazine Street store just got them in, but I wanted to try on a pair to gauge how they’d fit. Note: Size 8 was too small–but so cute!

Trashy Diva’s shoe boutique is this little slice of French Quarter shoe heaven that I’m really shouldn’t be allowed in without a) someone holding my credit cards hostage, or b) without a fistful of cash.  They carry really lovely brands like Remix, Irregular Choice, Poetic License, Frye, John Fluevog, Pink Studios, and so.much.more.  I don’t know how Mallory handles working in there!

See the rest of my Trashy Diva Shoe Boutique photos here!  Thank you to Mallory/Miss Malaprop for the love and helping me take the pictures of me-in-shoes!

Now THAT looks like a seriously dangerous shop!

I have a will of steel. (Well, usually.)

Good thing you do! I certainly wouldn’t…

I hate to be a bad influence, but if they get those Pucci-esque babies in your size you need to get them. Only because I didn’t love them on their own, but on your feet they look truly fab. You’ve brought them to life ;)
I enjoy the display of framed red shoes. I love the drama of the monochromatic.

Ashe Mischief December 9, 2010 at 2:55 pm

That display with the red shoes was my favorite!

And oh man, those pucci-esque ICL’s…. damn I love them. You’re such a bad influence!

I’ve seen those Irregular Choice Oz heels in person at Feet First. They are so stinkin’ cute! I wish I had the opportunity to wear heels more, Trashy Diva has such a fun selection.

Ashe Mischief December 9, 2010 at 2:56 pm

Ooh, thanks for the tip! I’ll have to check out Feet First…

Ughhh, I’m drooling! That is a stupidly dangerous store, i wouldn’t last five minutes in there before I went bankrupt. Oddly enough, I love those Irregular Choice Oz shoes even though I’m usually not a fan of super bright colors on my feet. But then again, I fall in love with almost anything Irregular Choice makes.

Ashe Mischief December 9, 2010 at 2:56 pm

Doesn’t ICL kill you? I could spend so, so much money there.

I seriously love those IC Oz shoes. I hope I never try them on because I’m one of those people who instantly bonds with it and it’s mine (unless it feels gross, as you said).

My bf has a habit of carrying something around “to see if he likes it” and when I tell him you’re more likely to buy it if you do that, he disagrees. I’m not sure if it’s just not the case with him or if he’s just oblivious to it?!

Ashe Mischief December 9, 2010 at 2:57 pm

I think that’s man logic. Man logic that FAILS. I’d start keeping track of how often he buys something he carries around, as opposed to if he doesn’t. Boys won’t argue with stats.

This store is dangerous! Those are the kind of shoes I know I don’t need but just want sooo badly! The most unique shoes I ever got were on a trip to New Orleans to look at Tulane when I was 16. I can’t remember the name of the store, but I’m sure it was in the French Quarter. They were a pair of wooden wedges with a whole island scene carved into the wedge. I miss those shoes!

Ashe Mischief December 9, 2010 at 2:57 pm

Those sound amazing, Marissa. New Orleans is such a good place for shoes… it’s just too bad that the sidewalks are so awful they tear them up!

jennine December 6, 2010 at 1:21 pm

woah, i can see why you avoided that store! i love the heels on the IC OZ shoes… holy mackrel, it’s crazy how amazing they are!

Ashe Mischief December 9, 2010 at 2:58 pm

That’s prob my favorite part… they now have some black/green leopard ones in that cut… but with the huge clear heel. They’re SO amazing….

Dorothy December 6, 2010 at 3:01 pm

So cute, especially those leopard Irregular Choice heels. I’ve only recently started wearing heels but I haven’t been able to find many with fat, stacked heels (spindly stilettos make me fall over). Guess I’m going to have to brave the bike ride into the quarter and check these out.

Ashe Mischief December 9, 2010 at 2:58 pm

You could bike to the uptown store! They have a small shoe store in the back now…. I’m totally trying to avoid stilettos and super high heels… and they have so many good ones!

BBM December 7, 2010 at 1:09 pm

new temptation in town! i love it when u feature cute stores from ure neck of the woods. irregular choice is a fab line and its awesome that you can actually see their shoes in person. theyre works of art arent they? love em!

Ashe Mischief December 9, 2010 at 2:59 pm

Thank you, bijoux! It’s a nice reminder there IS life & shopping outside of the internet! They’re beautiful little pieces… but it makes the temptation to buy so much more ridic!

Do you know that feeling you get when you walk into a store and your heart starts hammering and you get all overwhelmed? Thats what just happened to me when I saw all those shoes.. God I’m glad I dont live near it, I dont think Id be able to stay away. It would be my bank balance’s ultimate demise!

Ashe Mischief December 27, 2010 at 8:08 pm

Yes, that feeling! It happens whenever I go in ANY Trashy Diva store… it’s why I have to avoid them!
