If you’ve ever read Queen Gilda, you’re probably a fan of Gilda Su, the vibrant and lovely designer behind the site.  In a sea of thousands of fashion bloggers, Gilda is a tour de force of whimsical, bold, playful style and a vision that is truly her own.  From her exploits at Parsons (where she’s studying fashion design) to her adventures working at Pat Field and living in NYC.

So when Gilda mentioned the new lookbook for her mini-collection, I was greedy and eager to receive it.  And why wouldn’t I be– the lookbook is all things great about Gilda.  It’s magical and whimsical, colorful and playful, intricate and different.

the debut mini collection by RÊVASSEUR, which translates to “daydreamer”, embodies the emotions of childhood – adventures, imagination, self-discovery, growing up, dependency, and tension, where something cannot exist without the other, nor function without a helping hand. it was also inspired by english author enid blyton’s magic faraway tree series….

gilda was about 4 when her mother first bought her her first enid blyton book. this started gilda’s love affair with enid blyton and her wonderful tales, and in particular, the magic faraway tree series. the books brought her into an imaginary world filled with pixies and gnomes, flustered golliwogs, and talking rabbits; into the enchanted wood, up the magic faraway tree, gobbling pop biscuits and google buns, into the land of take-what-you-want and do-as-you-please, and down moonface’s slippery-slide.

the inspiration is expressed through a variety of strong silhouettes, a great mixture of textures and prints, as well as multiple pattern manipulations and fabric treatments. this collection is an exploration of a memory of gilda’s childhood, and her continual imagination of a world of colour, fun, and make-believe.

I love Gilda’s RÊVASSEUR collection for being so true to herself– it’s a really beautiful display of the creative energy of the designer, while being beautifully executed and wearable.  Her lookbook is a wonderful testament to the vision of the collection, and I love how cohesively they create this perfect vision of Gilda’s imagination.

Not always a fan of bright colours, but this collection is in fact a dream! I would love to see some more detail in that …layered…skirty (?) …piece in picture numero trois. Gorgeousness!

Fun images, the multi-way romper is my fave because of the print positioning detail but oddly enough I really like her shoes (guess I have a thing for weird shoes).
