If Money Were No Object: Mardi Gras Costumes!

by Ashe on January 27, 2010

A big part of Mardi Gras is the costumes! It’s a week long opportunity to dress up in your favorite pieces, most unforgettable costumes… while it’s not mandatory during the week days, it’s a must on Fat Tuesday! I like any excuse to dress up though…

For the Muses parade…. a celebration of womenhood, all this girly and feminine… a cardigan & leggings to add demureness and warmth on potentially chilly February nights… Fafi inspired make-up, super lashes… a big pink wig. (Feminine lace cardigan and leggings for added warmth!)

For Krewe D’Etat, the only time of the year I’ll dress up like a pirate.  I’m definitely thinking pieces by Damsel in this Dress are involved.  This was last seen in my Halloween post… drop the mask, add a sexy bandana and you’re easily a saucy sea wench! (Plus, cleavage, NOT boobies, is a nice way to flirt for extra good beads ;)

masquerade, sea wench, pirate costume, masquerade costume, leather mask, damsel in this dress, kitty mask, renaissance bodice, renaissance corset,

Fat Tuesday… a day that begins at 8 a.m. and doesn’t end until the clock strikes Midnight.  An all-day affair photo opportunity requires many things in a costume– comfort, style, durability, and ease (for getting in the bathroom, moving, etc.).  A bit of an Alice in Wonderland revival… where accessories are best over the top and too many.

The delicious cake hat is by the glorious Agent Lover & can be purchased here!

As you can see, I love a good bodice or corset, and masks are a must during this holiday! Fluffy skirts to play with proportion (or disproportion yourself) and vibrant colors all around…. and texture galore!

If you were headed to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, what kind of costumes would you put together?

Mardi Gras seems like the greatest part- definitely want to be in New Orleans for that some day. I really like your costume picks, especially the corsets!

I love masks as well, they tranform you into a mistery woman…

I would wear a long fluffy skirt, a huge hat and a mask of course!

I think I’d definitely go the feathers + sequins route. And glitter. And a ridiculous hat. (Marie’s hats are FREAKIN ADORABLE, I kind of want one even though I’d absolutely never wear it!)

(not that her hats are ridiculous. maybe ridiculously AWESOME)

I couldn’t say exactly, but sequins, a mask and a cute hat would be incorporated – for sure. I like that cat mask, btw!
