Lust List: Style on the Run Guest Post

by Ashe on August 16, 2010

This guest post is by super sweetie Grace over at Style on the Run. Give her warm welcome and big thanks for being so kind as to write for Dramatis Personae.

Firstly, a big hello to all of Ashe’s readers! I’m Grace and you can usually find me over at ‘Style on the Run’ where I post daily about my life as a fashion student… amongst other style/design/craft related musings.

When deciding what to theme my first (ever!) guest post around, I was instantly drawn to the idea of my new season lust list. As a poor fashion student, I am always craving new items to add to my ever expanding wardrobe but with the constant nag at the back of my mind that my student loan really isn’t for that sneaky purchase. It is for this reason that when the next season does come along with its lovely shiny must-buy-me-this-minute collections, choosing wisely is a must.

I don’t particularly like to follow trends, because what’s the point in buying items you know will last a few months before they make you cringe while wondering how on earth you ever needed wanted them? For me, any additions to my wardrobe must feel contemporary yet classic with an innate feeling that this is a keeper. Newness is key, as long as it is reworked from a style or garment type that is a staple within my existing wardrobe.

These 5 gorgeous but hideously expensive items are my compiled inspiration for upcoming shopping trips. This opulent Balmain dress looks innovative with the long sleeve/short skirt combo and would surely make an appearance at any events I happened to attend over the winter months. The Louis Vuitton skirt would add interest to my wardrobe with its unusual length and would be a great item to carry through to SS11. The prints on the Matthew Williamson and Prada dresses look fresh with the digital application while the tartan design adds a classic element to the look. A leather biker jacket is such a versatile garment, and with the added shearling detail, this burberry version of a classic makes for a great winter coat.

What influences your shopping choices at the start of a new season? Do you hunt out specific designer inspired garments or perhaps head to the stores and treat the new season as a blank canvas ready for you to try out new looks? I’d love to know!

I’m influenced by color and fabrics. Like you, I tend to stray from trends and find pieces that I like or love. This fall I am very much in love with 50s/other decades inspired fashion: tea length dresses/skirts, elbow length gloves, and jacquard fabrics.

I’ve yet to attend very many “fashion” type events, but I’m planning another trip to NYC this fall/winter and you can bet that I’ll be inspired by many a-runway getup!

I loved your post and will visit your blog.

Thanks for featuring Grace, Ashe!!

i am influenced by what i see on the runway, yes. but while shopping i’m on the hunt for versatile items…. basics, you know? still, i am so not able to resist to a quirky dress or, of course, a pair of sassy heels!

oh, can’t wait for fall to be here already!!

faves from the collage are prada and balmain!

I can never understand those people who get a new look when the seasons change (like Brad on RZ!), but there is something so glamorous and indulgent about the whole concept.

I will likely buy one or two trendy items each season, but generally stick to my style which is classic, clean lines and a little funky artsy thrown in. My big addiction is buying quality “investment” pieces, so I guess thats why I tend to buy classic more than trendy.

I am lusting after than Burberry jacket!!
