Treating Myself for 27

Today’s my 27th birthday. It kind of snuck up on me– for the past few years, I’ve kind of forgotten how old I am.  So when I realized it was my 27th birthday, I had a bit of a panic attack.  Where did it come from?! How did I get here already?

I tend to splurge on myself at Christmas and my birthday–so many of my family & loved ones never know what to buy me, that I’d rather they buy me dinner or give me money, and leave the shopping to me.  I can’t help but want to splurge, and this birthday was no different.

I don’t typically go as all out as I did this year… but after the fact I realized… I’ve been through a LOT since my last birthday.  Moving back to New Orleans and settling in after the disrupt of Hurricane Katrina almost 5 years ago; moving across country with only the help of Miss Malaprop to take a new job; the beau and I got back together; I’m working in a job with a lot of responsibility, that’s often stressful and filled with 70 hour weeks, on top of trying to keep myself by blogging, sewing, being social, etc.

It’s been a big year, and one where I’ve proven that I’m not only a big girl, but a pretty damn good at being a grown up.
So grown up treats were in order.  I don’t often showcase a lot of my purchases on here, so showcasing such spendy pieces feels weird.  But I did I get them both for steals…

Chloe Tilia Sunglasses from Ideeli.  I love the plum color, as it works in my wardrobe palette, while being a softer alternative than black.  I’m really OBSESSED with the oversized cats eye shape of late.  I think it’s really kind of timeless, though we didn’t see it much before this past season.  It’s a great, funky alternative to oversized glasses, which I religiously love & live in.

Hayden Harnett was having it’s annual Big Bang Sale recently… The above bag was on sale for about 30% off… coupled with an additional 20% Friends & Family discount & a store credit I had… made this a sweet deal.  Then the mamacita chipped in some money, and I got it for the sweetest song.

Hayden Harnett is the company that MADE me a bag girl.  They’re regularly the only company whose collections excite me, even though this past season wasn’t the most thrilling. (Though the season before? Sweet Zeus save my credit cards from misery!)  This bag is no exception…. soft, supple leather. 4 internal pockets, 2 exterior pockets, and a hidden pocket.  I love that the braided handle and tassles add some hipness and funk to the bag.  But as you can see, the can be removed for a really beautiful, simple black bag… Plus that funky little square doubles as a card holder!

What I especially love is that they were birthday treats that will see me through the next 20 birthdays!
