While in the midst and thick of Mardi Gras, I can’t help but start mentally planning for other festivities this year– my birthday, Halloween, New Year’s Eve, and, of course, the random nights it is just fun to dress up.
Since moving back to New Orleans, I haven’t actually found the time to play at one of my favorite shops in the city: Fifi Mahoney’s. And in case you haven’t noticed, I like wigs a LOT. Going in to a place like Fifi’s is a bit like stepping in to the Willy Wonka factory, and it’s not an occasion to be taken lightly. I can’t go in without buying something– and so it seems best to just not go in, rather than buying another wig that’ll be difficult to incorporate in to my wardrobe.
Thanks to the wonders of Fashion Week… I’ve discovered my reason to go in, to get a piece made I’m passionate and enthused about…
The inspiration? Chanel’s Couture Show, S/S 2010….

For a while I’d been wanting a Marie Antoinette style wig, but one that was built out of more realistic, natural looking hair (ala Kirsten Dunst in Marie Antoinette). That being said, a wig of that style is fairly limited in its uses. I love the Chanel hair because while it has this slight reference to Marie Antoinette styling with the height, the volume, and the shape, it’s more modern, it’s more playful. I love the heart shape from behind and how the adornments following through the back spine, and I love the natural hair color with slightly unnatural streaks. Most of all, I love the many outfits I can see myself pairing a wig like this with…. antique Victorian dolls, Marie Antionette, steampunk pieces, bloomers and corsets, Lolita skirts, black doll lips…
Now the biggest problem is deciding what hair color and what accent colors…

Oh i can’t wait to see how this turns out!! You will post photos, won’t you?
As far as colors, I vote black and pastel pink…or maybe a darker brown like that one model has, with a light turquoise. Probably no shock there. ;)

Of course there will be photos!
I definitely want to go with a more natural base color… so I’ll probably see what looks “good” on me from their stock… I’d thought about going a lighter blonde with dark brown or black, too… so many options!
Definitely must see pics. Too fun!

Me too!! I’ve been OBSESSED with this hair since I first saw it, and asked a hairdresser friend of mine a few weeks back how she thought they did it. I’ve also thought of making a wig version. How about purple with silver white streaks, or black with silvery lavender streaks? Or since it’s in a heart shape, pale pink with white streaks?

I LOVE the idea of going with unnatural colors… but I think I want to play with more neutrals, especially since I already have a pink wig? But I love the idea of silvery lavender streaks…
Yes PLEASE! I love it. I love the peek of color in the bangs… and the giant bouffanty-ness of it. MMM.

I never saw the back spine, that’s incredible!
The back really does it for me! That extra oomph & detail!
So fun, I love this. That last shot remind me of a Disney villain’s hair!
