Purple Rain

by Ashe on August 31, 2010

I’ve been a bit on a purple kick lately. It’s such a great color to transition from Summer in to Fall, with vibrant shades on those hot days, muted tones to accent crisp whites, and dark shades to complement falling leaves.

b & lu, b and lu, b & lu amelia dress, B & lu ruffle dress, B & lu purple dress,

B&Lu sent along the  Alecia Dress to me– super soft rayon coupled with great details.  The ruffles and gathers along the bust draw attention to & emphasize my favorite area, while the gathers at the empire waist help disguise trouble spots.  I wish that the ruffles and waist were closer to the natural waist line rather than being an empire waist (here I explain my troubles with empire waists) and would hide my little beer belly, but this is such a comfortable dress, I’m not sure how much I care.

I’m really looking forward to this dress for Autumn… paired with leggings, patterned scarves, and cute boots….

In other news, I think red hair is not for me. I’ve had it approximately a month now, and it’s not working out for me. I find that it makes my skin look sallow and sickly, it makes my make-up look harsh and ill matched… it makes me excited to go back brunette. I’ve given up on my dreams of Christina Hendricks hair.

I have those same crazy vines growing on my fence, I just let them run their course since I love a lush, overgrown garden. And by garden I mean whatever I can’t kill.

I went through an eggplant purple phase, it really is like a neutral in the sense that you can put brighter colors with it and it looks great. I’m done with wearing black on a regular basis!

I’m not sure what these vines are, but I love them! Eggplant is a SUPER great neutral… I love it.

I love purple! I am so excited it’s a big color for fall. I’m on the hunt from a great sweater or skirt (I have a purple dress already).

Man, I am excited for fall, and I can tell you are too!! :)

The dress is beautiful on you! They looked pretty plain and average on the website but you’re selling it! You should model for B&Lu. ;)

You’re so sweet, Amy! They’re a really good BASIC piece, I’d say…. though I worry about wear scarves & them conflicting with the ruffles!

Awww I’m sorry you can’t have perfect CH hair, though, for my two cents I think the 2nd pic looks fab. That color on that dress is just stunning!

Thank you! I think I just need a light blue-red and less an orange-red….

Agreed, these pictures turned out super cute! You know I love that color (I wouldn’t mind a dress in that color myself) and your hair with the dress with the lush green background looks great!

Naturally, I approve of this dress! I think it looks great on your figure. Re: the hair, I actually really like it in these photos, but have you tried changing the colours you use for your make-up? If you change your hair colour you have to change your make-up to work with the new hair colour, if you haven’t tried it, try looking at colour suggestions for redheads.

Actually, I’ve been pretty lucky in regards to changing hair colors and NOT having to change make-up colors… that being said, I’d rather just change my hair color. It’s a lot cheaper to spend $10 to dye my hair back brown that it is to spend $300 to replace all the make-up I recently bought. I should also add– the color doesn’t look good against my bare skin, which is the bigger problem. It’s just not the right shade of red.

Fair enough – I’m a cosmetic cheapskate and my hair is lonnnng, so I’d change the make-up first! Good luck finding the right colour if you decide to give red another go.

Ahh I’m so jealous of your yard and viney fence!

Anyways…that’s a super cute dress. I love purple, it’s such a versatile shade. Re: your hair, have you thought about like a dark reddish brown or auburn? I think red might still look good on you, just in a darker shade. (Of course, this is coming from someone who really likes dark hair on pale people, so take it with a grain of salt.)

Don’t be too jealous of that yard– it took me a WEEK to cut the weeds down with a weedeater after they had gotten 2 feet tall…. note to self, chop them once a week. OY.

That color looks gorgeous on you, it makes your eyes pop! It will be sooo cute belted with a vest and tights for Fall, too.

Also like you, and Christy, I have those crazy vines just like that in my backyard too!

Do you think you\’re going to go for a dark brown? I love that you mentioned last week that you were considering a change and you\’re ready to take the plunge! Can\’t wait to see :)

I need to get unlazy and post the brunette hair! I really want to add highlights or under layer chunks in another color though, to give it more depth….

I love how candid you are about your body issues. I am just starting to feel comfortable in my skin and with my pictures, and just starting to feel like I belong online, or at least that I have a place online. I just found blogs for/by petites, but they’re also super skinny. :-( I HATE how bigger pants are longer, and cheaper petite pants are in the rare store. Le sigh. Anyway, thanks for the post.

Thanks, Ella! I always try to be pretty upfront about it, because I’d be lying if I acted like I was always happy with my body when I’m not. Don’t worry– you’ll soon find your right & perfect niche online…when I discovered more fatshion bloggers, I felt really relieved. Finally girls who could be style inspirations but ALSO body buddies!
