The buzz in New Orleans lately has been the arrival of Anthropologie, the big sister store to Urban Outfitters & Free People who inspires Anthro-loving blogs and a cult-like following.
Can I blame these fanatical fans of the store though? Hardly. While I’d only ever been able to admire from afar and online at this point, I was excited as well to see one live. And it does not disappoint. It’s probably one of the most beautifully merchandised stores I’ve ever been in to.
Anthropologie opened up in Canal Place, an upscale shopping center on Canal Street, in the French Quarter. They took the space of the old Pottery Barn, and filled in the beautiful, airy, 2 floor space. This company knows how to give a girl a lovely Friday evening– the opening had a great live band, delish hors d’ouevres and wine floating around, and an overall charming shopping experience.
(My dream bedroom, perhaps)

Of the events I’ve attended since moving back to New Orleans, the Anthropologie opening by far had some of the best dressed women. It’s a shame I didn’t get pictures of them (I’m nervous about taking photos of people), because there were some fabulous frocks surrounding me.

(My adorbs wifey, Joanna, posing with a hysterical cat plate. We were obsessed with it.)
On the way out (we hung out for over an hour!), we ran in to Christy from Slow Southern Style, who was looking super cute and shiny that night! I picked up a small bottle of perfume, L’Aromarine Fleurs Blanches (which isn’t for sale on the Anthro site, but is on Amazon)– the Makeup Alley reviews say the floral notes in it are bergamot, lemon, lily, and honeysuckle. It’s inexpensive, really light & pretty to wear, and contains my two favorite floral scents.

How lucky you are to be an Anthropologie infant! I remember well how the store came upon my psyche when I first visited it long ago. They do a good job at keeping everything equally fresh & dramatic as the years go by, so don’t be surprised if your initial warmth for the place continues!
Every time I go in, I’m seduced anew…Enjoy!
I’m going to have keep my visits in check! I can’t afford to get too cozy with them :)
The Anthro in my town is a 2-minute walk from my work. This is very dangerous. ;)
Lovely pics!

You’re so right about the merchandising, they must be in a retail textbook somewhere as a perfect merch example!

if they aren’t, they really should be!
Funny that we took pics of some of the same things. My gonola.com post goes up tomorrow.

Yay! Another NOLA blogger! Thanks for posting to my site; your blog rocks! That bedroom is to die for… kinda surprised that you didn’t get shooed out of the store for taking pics!
Hollar at me if you ever hear of any NOLA blogger events!

Since it was their opening party, I asked as we came in if it was alright, mentioned I was a fashion blogger, etc. They were really quick to say yes! There were lots of people taking pictures…
Beth, I definitely will! There are a couple coming up towards the end of the month– I’ll drop you a line about them!
Great post! I love love love Anthropologie. There are just 2 stores in the whole on England (in London) which is pretty far from Manchester :( I’m currently doing a project for uni on the store though which is really cool :)

I hope we get to see your project! I always enjoy seeing those on your site….
those booties are SO adorable! I wish they sold them on the site, I would be all over them! I miss having an Anthropologie near by.
Ugh I would LOOOOVE to shop at Anthropologie, but alas, their connection to Urban Outfitters (& the CEO’s contributions to Rick Santorum [anti-gay a-hole!]) renders me unable to shop there. :( SO CUTE THOUGH! Torture!

While I have incredibly mixed feelings towards Urban Outfitters as both a former employee and consumer, I can’t forget the incredible kindness and generosity that they showed me and my New Orleans coworkers in the aftermath of Katrina. That kind of generosity does not go unforgotten in my life.
