Last weekend I threw out feelers to ask what you always wanted to know about me, and I had a few things pop up…. If there are questions you’d still like to ask, please feel free to shoot them my way!
From the gorgeous Jennine…
How many pets do you have…and what are they? Can we see a picture?
With the exception Miss Lottie, Haus of Mischief is sans fur babies. The betta boys died within the last few years, but had long lives & many adventures (from New Orleans, to Gulfport, to Bloomington). At my mother’s house, there are 3 cats & a dog who I claim family ties to: cats (Nudle [Nu-nu], Truffle [Chocolatey Moose Baby], and Henry [Tramp/Kitty Fantastico], and our dog Roxy [Bad Dog Roxy Roxy Bad Dog]).
What did you want to be when you grew up… I mean when you were a kid…
For a long time (even as far back as kindergarten!), I wanted to be in law enforcement. Mostly the FBI. The other popular career choice was an actress, which led more to interest in directing. Film was a big part of my life, and within the realm of director, screenwriter and cinematographer fell in to path too. It makes sense though, because all of my loves were represented: writing, photography, visuals, sewing.
At one point I wanted to make doll clothes.
What is your favorite pair of shoes?
My John Fluevog Lately flats…. I have them in red and in black. I also just ordered my second pair in black… I must wear these several days a week…

What’s your favorite all time book?
Okay… there’s NO WAY I can limit myself to one book. So I’ll break it down this way…
The one book I’d take on a desert island would be Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, because it’s so long & I could re-read it so many times and still catch new things.
Though I’d also add:
American Gods: A Novel
The Passion
Written on the Body
A Ring of Endless Light
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (the last two have been favorites of my almost my entire life…)
From the lovely Michelle…
What’s your favorite band/type of music?
It’s so undeniably, unarguably 80s music. As a result, I really have a strong love of the early 2000s electroclash, too. For favorite bands though, it’s Duran Duran and Firewater.

What was your favorite subject in high school?
It’d be a toss up– I had really great teachers and classes in high school. I loved Comparative Religion, English, Theater, and Photography most of all. I’m sure none of these are surprises, though.
What’s your pet peeve?
I talked about this a bit on Twitter with Michelle, but one is when people ask you for advice or your opinion, and then spend all of their time giving you rebuttals and excuses. If you want me to reinforce your own opinion, tell me. Don’t waste my time.
Another pet peeve of mine is men who treat me like a princess– who want to pamper me and buy me things, but refuse to let me “pay my way” in the relationship. I don’t mind being treated to dinner or bought pretty toys, but I want to be able to do it in return. I believe in partnerships, not being “kept.”
If you were getting a tattoo, what would you get? (I think you mentioned a unicorn tatt, but I don’t remember so I’m going to be redundant and ask anyways!)
I have been wanting a unicorn tattoo, absolutely! I always think on tattoos for a long time, to see whether or not I’d still want it after several years. I think they’re very personal and as such, I wouldn’t get something random on my body.
Some of the others I’ve wanted are: the bat symbol, the Russian word for “Hope” (my middle name), a fleur de lis (to commemorate Katrina). I’ve always loved the violin curves ala the Man Ray image, too…

I love that two of my favorite ladies asked such great questions! Again– if there’s anything else you want to know, just drop me a note!

I hate guys who do the thing you mentioned! Blech. That’s so funny you wanted to be in the FBI, I guess not funny but – I don’t know, not something 5 year olds usually say, you know?
(Of course, this is coming from the girl who would regularly answer “paleotologist” when asked what she wanted to be at 5-6 years old, hahaha)

Oh, it’s lovely to hear more about you. I’m terrible at thinking of questions to ask under pressure. I tried but all I couldn’t come up with anything!
I looove Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell, I’ve read it several times, but I have it in hardback so I can’t really take it around with me as it’s huge!
