Things I Love Thursday

reading

  • Nudges from the Universe.
  • Visits from old friends (her first visit, too!) & Love Notes from wonderful ladies during New York Fashion Week.
  • Daily text messages & phone calls with the fella, sharing pictures of our lives (like his trip to an amazing tavern with hundreds of bottles of Scotch!)
  • I like to wax philosophical about Lady Gaga; Agent Lover gets drunks & waxes poetic, and say things like “I am quite fond of red lace. It very old Italian putana” when describing Gaga’s VMA outfits. This is why I love Marie.
  • Donating/Selling/Trading enough books that I was able to get rid of a broken bookcase! (Which, considering I’ve got a bookcase per every 90 square feet in my apartment, is quite the feat.)
  • The Autumnal return of my favorite tv shows: The Big Bang Theory, Mad Men, How I Met Your Mother, Supernatural, Bones, America’s Best Dance Crew, Heroes, and more….
  • Twisted Princesses: A Darker Take on Disney Princesses. I LOVE this. With the merger between Marvel and Disney, some brilliant artist thought to revisit Disney’s famed princesses through the eyes of Marvel… I especially love Pocohantas and Jane.
  • Queen Marie’s ‘Hip Explosion’ — AMAZING! So beautiful. I feel a DIY-project coming on myself, because I definitely need me one of these….
  • An Oil for An Oil at the Coveted.  As a gal with oily skin (and hair), I’m always looking for ways to hydrate & nourish my skin, without making things worse. I’m super tempted to try and start the oil cleansing method to see if decreases my own oilies.
  • Great deals of veggies & fruit–increasing my consumption has made me feel “lighter” overall (though I’m finding myself more fatigued than usual).
  • Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia Such an amazing, beautiful, touching read! I was totally worried it would be all self-help bookish, but it was far from it.
  • Favorite new(ish) blogs: Slow Southern Style, Lulu Letty, ….Love, Maegan, & Fashion for Geeks.  Fashionable, fabulous ladies! I look forward to seeing their posts every day.
  • The Vulnerability Manifesto shared by Mademoiselle Robot.  Eye-candy galore!
  • Hair Styling Tools: From Major Curls to Perfect Waves: from ….Love, Maegan.  Perfect for gals like me with super fine & straight hair, who are always itching for the best & perfect ways to create a head full of curls.  I especially love her Afro curls!
  • Yum, the Half Moon Manicure…at Bobbins and Bombshells. I’ve been seeing this style around a lot lately, and while I’m not a nail polish girl, I could definitely see myself rocking this kind of style… (in fact, when rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I noticed Drusilla sporting a similar paint job!)

I love the half-moon manicure! Especially the dark red/clear combo. And I still want to read “Eat, Pray, Love”, but I’ve always thought it’d be a “self-help”-ish book as well. Sounds like the author went on an amazing journey.

Ha – is it bad that I don’t even have to look at the link to know what kind of manicure you’re talking about, just because Dru had it? And I LOVE the hip explosion! What a great idea, you could dress up any plain skirt with that!

I read “Eat, Pray, Love” a while ago and I really liked it. I thought she did a good job telling the story & inserting tidbits of wisdom without getting too self-helpy/majorly preachy.

Twisted Disney princesses…wow. Did you see the ones Dina Goldstein did? Very cool. I love the idea of that.

Please photodocument any hip explosion DIY exploits. =D

I love that Drusilla’s manicure is so memorable!

Alicia, I haven’t seen her work! You should link me up with it.

Sheena, I really agree with what Michelle said about Eat, Pray, Love. It’s not preachy or self-helping, but for me it was really inspiring in a positive way. It’s so honest and straightforward.

Get some vitamin B-12 for the fatigue! I picked up some yesterday, so don’t know if it’s working yet or not, but I need to quit caffeine and Dave says it’s supposed to be good for energy?

Eat, Love, Pray is a fantastic book. What a wonderful list you put together. I think my list would consist mostly of various type of food.

Marie-mamacita, I FUCKING LOVED THAT POST. It was totally amazing.

Mally, I’ll have to check them out! I need more energy and I need better sleep…

Natanya, I’m so glad others have read it! Oh man, I certainly SHOULD include food on my list… like my amazing brunches and lunches at the Turkish restaurant…

Thanks so much for linking to my post! Sorry for the slow response! Totally missed the trackback. Have you tried the oil cleansing? Has it helped?
