The Dramatis Personae: Amanda & Marc [Ugly Betty]

There are a lot of reasons to love the show Ugly Betty: amazing theatrics and dramatics, over-the-top comedy, absurdity, and a golden, warm heart at the center. Color me crazy, but the show wouldn’t be half the show it is without the mad antics of comedic sidekicks, Marc St. James and Amanda Tanen.

Not only do I think Amanda & Marc are fierce, but their style is quite fabulous. From Amanda’s fitted waistlines to Marc’s ascots and vest sets, they are both nothing if not refined, sharp, and at times over-the-top…

Both Marc and Amanda share common characteristics in their wardrobe styling; I have to admit, in an ideal world, my work wardrobe would probably resemble Amanda’s quite a bit!

♥ Tailoring! Neither of these fantastic friends looks disheveled, wears clothes that are over-sized, or have a string out of place.
♥ Unique Details Amanda can wear something so simple as a black vest & white shirt, and NOT look like a waiter. It’s because she chose to focus on bold details in the styling to make it work for her. Similarly, Marc does the same by combining coordinating prints in his suits, or corset lacing up the backs of his vests.
♥ Vests I love a good vest, and there is never a shortage of them with these two around. It’s an instant way to add an extra dose of fantastic to your outfit.
♥ Signature Accessories This applies well to Marc, whose style is so sartorial it hurts. From substituting his tie for an ascot, to a refined hankie in his breast pocket, he knows that a signature detail to his outfit defines his style and makes it memorable.

(p.s. In a show about fashion, why aren’t more images of their outfits accessible? *le sigh*)
