She Loves a Circus

She Loves a Circus
She Loves a Circus – by Ashe Mischief on Polyvore.com

The circus is a huge inspiration to me– the lights, the stripes of the tent, the sequins and tulle on the pony girls, the spandex of the acrobats, aerialists, and contortionists, the top hats and tailcoats, suspenders and dirty tank tops on the ring leaders.

Together, or separate, I think all of these pieces are a bit dramatic and tell a story of their own. In real life or for day-to-day wear, I’d probably dress them down a bit to let them speak for themselves.  For a night out though, the sky is the limit and all the world’s a stage.

Here are some of my favorite circus-esque songs, to put you in the mood…

Does anyone else still dream regularly of running away to the circus? I think about it constantly….

This is great — the circus is a fabulous inspiration! I adore that ringleader-esque coat! :)

@Strottie – I happened across that coat accidentally– but when I saw the flare of the skirt, I just knew it had to go in here!

I love that polyvore! I’ve been looking for a good pair of vertical striped thigh highs for FOREVER. and that coat is awesome.

I LOVE every single one of those pieces. Does this mean that I should join the circus? I have thought about it. I concluded I could be a trapeze artist, but I would just have to get over my fear of heights. I think it would be worth it.

I love everything in that Polyvore. And I love Britney Spears’s song Circus too. So there.

Have you watched Mirrormask? I just saw it again the other day (with Freya!) and love the circus style in it.

I do love the little mermaid but that would be way hard to get inspiration from – I think I could go as far as the red hair but even thats a risk for me. :)

I’m loving all the circus themes that are going around in fashion now; the burlesque dancers and costumes are amazing! I’m totally looking for a tuxedo with tails, a la ringmaster, as we speak.

@kevin – Oh yes! I love it, though it’s a love that has had to grow.

@mermaid – I love love love your comment– “the circus represents everything that excites me and scares me in the world! like a HUGE tent of adrenaline.” So VERY true!

@crosby – I haven’t honey! I’ll see if I can snag a copy on PaperBackSwap.

@Stylish Thought – A tuxedo with tails is such a great piece– I do hope you find one & we’re treated with amazing outfit pictures!

@susie_bubble – Oh yes you do, Susie! I need you in my own wardrobe, doctoring up ways for me to wear my own spat boots.

@alixrose – The trapeze is one of my favorites! I’d be up there with you girl, so long as neither of us pass out!

I concur. A slow-growing love, but one that lasts.
