I was struck by this quote from Eat, Pray, Love and how I felt there was a certain degree of truthiness in it, at least for myself. Some may view beauty, fashion, style as vanity, but for me, it’s a matter of showing my body and mind the respect it deserves…
Coincidentally (or maybe Serendipitously?), this quote comes from a woman named Armenia, who works/worked with Novica (and who was featured not too long ago here!). I’ll have to show off the beautiful pieces I ordered from Novica, as they’re truly little treasures…

I remember finding that quote particularly appropriate because at the time that I was reading it I was travelling through some poor parts of the world. I think Armenia had the right mindset. She wasn’t dressing well in a frivolous or mindless way – she was very consciously deciding what was an appropriate way to be herself but respect the time and place as well.

Wow, an outlook that I had never considered before. Shifting the paradigm from frivolous/superficial to a form of self respect! Great food for thought.

1. i loved Eat Pray Love, such a good read.
2. I think looking good is important, because when we look good, we feel good and that goodness leaks all over into our whole lives.

i love this – it’s something that i should remember in my day-to-day life also, it’s hard to “get dressed” when you work from homw, or you’re just going to the grocery store.
the way you present yourself to the world is absolutely reflective of your degree of self-respect. what a great way to say it. thanks so much for sharing this.
I love this quote and I totally agree.

wow, that’s such an amazingly resilient way of being… i have to read this book, but somehow resisted not knowing what it was about.
I’m actually in the middle of reading Eat,Pray,Love right now though I haven’t gotten to that part yet. I think the better you feel about yourself that feeling will spread to others. If that means wearing make up into the jungle then so be it.

Amelia, I love hearing your own response + reaction, especially having travelled in a way that Armenia has too!
Jennine, definitely pick it up! I resisted for the same reasons, but am so glad that a gal pal convinced me to pick it up…
Grechen, it can be SO hard to do in our day-to-day…hell, I have to leave the house for work, and I have a hard time doing it!
Id & Kate, it seems like you’re both on the same train of thought! I definitely think how we feel pushes outwards…
I still haven’t read it yet, but I LOVE that quote! I couldn’t agree more, feeling myself and looking a way that feels good to me is more important than what others think when they see me. Thanks for sharing :)
