Mischief-Managed Media: Movie Mayhem

by Ashe on August 1, 2009

Every summer I get overly excited about summer blockbusters. Because for as much as I hold my head high and tout the virtues & my love of Bergman and Truffaut, there’s a side of me that hears that horrible Michael Bay’s voice in my head going “EXPLOSIONS EXPLOSIONS EXPLOSIONS!” and actually gets excited.  So while I’m chomping down popcorn to Harry Potter, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Wolverine and so many more, there’s another range of films that are getting me equally excited (if not more!).

Nine & Where the Wild Things Are & The Frog & the Princess all make me feel something else.  They all inspire this childlike wonder in me, one I haven’t felt for a long time.  It’s similar to the feeling I remember getting the first time I saw Labyrinth or A Nightmare Before Christmas when I was so young.

What about you, love? What films are totally riling you up with excitement, anticipation, and energy — or which ones from your childhood make you inspired and filled with awe?  I hope these don’t let me down! :(

I am very excited about the Princess and the Frog! My friend and I are going to go in costume to the opening, she as the Princess from the movie and myself as Belle. She likes to redo the trailer as “After 75 years of magic, Disney finally made a black Princess.”

What about Alice in Wonderland? Is that coming out soon?

I still haven’t seen UP.

There are so many kid-friendly options coming out this year. And they all look TERRIFIC.

Alice in Wonderland!! I’m sad I have to wait until next year to see it, but I’m awestruck by the trailer.

Oooh yeah! Nine looks terrific! And I want to see the Princess and the Frog too, although I don’t know who I’ll get to go with me, haha. I’m excited for Alice in Wonderland, of course, and I also want to see the movie about the Runaways too! (I have no idea what the title is, or when it comes out, though…)

I’m soooo excited to see Where the Wild Things Are!! Another film coming out is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs- depending on reviews, I’ll probably see it though it’s drastically different than the book- which is one of my all-time favorite books!

dreamsequins, UP is AMAZING. Like Wall-E, it’s so, so much more than a kids film. I cried so much during it.

I’m still kind of ambivalent about Alice in Wonderland.. is that silly of me? God, I love that story so much….
