In case you’ve noticed, I’ve been using the weekends to post more light-heartened, personal, and playful posts. More bits & pieces on my mind than the standard fanfare you may find during the week. Weekends are for improvising.
When I saw this picture, I was so struck & taken by it. How it’s so basic, so bare, and yet has so much going on. I love how it screams intimacy and sensuality, all while having something sexy and unsexy about it.
It’s sexy because we’re viewing it; Kate looking at us makes us feel like we’ve been caught. It’s sexy because Depp is in what is arguably a sexual position, yet there’s almost something decidely not sexual about it. It’s intimate, it’s sensual, but it’s not sexual. I love looking at it, thinking that it can be for the masculine gaze or the feminine gaze.

Love the photo, it really is great. Kind of like a combination of really raw newspaper reporting photography, and Mario Testino like art. Gorgeous!

Wow. Just wow. All of those observations are definitely right on the money. I also love that he’s clothed and she’s not, as a contrast in image but also a statement of (possibly) the difference between male and female vulnerability. Thank you for sharing this!
PS – I had a similar strong reaction to this picture of Bowie and Iman. I think I might post about it at some point, but enjoy it unadultered!

I’ll go ahead and be completely superficial by saying: how can any photo with Johnny Depp in it be anything BUT gorgeous?!!!!
On the not-so-superficial front though, I see what you mean…..kate looks sexual; she’s naked, and looking straight at the camera in a “I like it when you watch” kinda way, while Johnny (oh Johnny…sigh!) looks completely oblivious, and almost childlike and innocent, like a little boy who fell asleep in his mothers arms… (ha! we know better though! )

Simi, I definitely think there is something childlike, and almost vulnerable about Depp in the picture…which is more interesting since he’s the one clothed (and less vulnerable as such!).
