I was recently at one of Miss Malaprop’s Handmade Home Shopping Parties, with a willpower of steel! I was surrounded by gorgeous bits & pretties from the New Orleans Craft Mafia and a few other indie designers, when I met the most curious and delightful little guys.
Sock Monsters!
These sock monsters are made by local costume designer and Noisician Coalition member (and formerly a Trashy Diva girl & the New Orleans Bingo Show gal), Veronica Russell. I kept curiously going back to the blue guy, Zenmaster Flurm. I’m not sure why, but he instantly reminded me of the boy. When I read his story, I knew he really DID remind me of the fella.
Whatever transpires, Zenmaster Flurm is on the job, sitting in blissful contentment. He claims his third eye allows him to see past day-to-day anxieties, so he can get on with more important things….
Like more sitting.
It was when I saw the second guy, tucked away near the floor and among many yo-yo scarves that I thought I had met MY sock monster doppleganger, Pooh-Pooh McBlahsky.
Pooh-Pooh McBlahsky hates everything. But don’t it personally– we all have days like that, don’t we?
Given how I’m quite fond of telling the boy I hate him, it seemed like I had found a match made in heaven. Zenmaster and Pooh-Pooh make quite the great pair, and they’re ready for adventuring around the world.
You can pick up Veronica’s sock monsters, and her gorgeous yo-yo scarves at her Etsy shop, Yoyodyne Inc. Each sock monster has his own name and story, kind of like each of us. (Plus, we’ve decided you can totally determine what a child will be like based on their response to these fun little monsters! …I wouldn’t mind them hiding in my closet.)
