FUMI Pursehook Review: Fashionable Unique Multi-purpose Innovative

by Ashe Mischief on March 24, 2009

The ladies behind The Fumi we super kind enough to send me a sample of their product to test out for review.

The Fumi, which stands for Fashionable Unique Multi-purpose Innovative, is a combination handbag hook, purse accessory, and bracelet in one. Each accessory is designed and named to provide positive energy to the wearer, with names like “Confident,” “Courageous,” and “Vibrant.”

The ladies sent me Vibrant, a zebra print purse hook that I thought was pretty neutral/complementary to my style. I picked up at UPS on the way up to Indianapolis for a date night with the fella. It arrived in perfect timing– we were seeing a comedy show & going out to dinner, and it was the perfect chance to try out the device!

He tore open the package while I was driving up, and to our disappointment, it was quite scratched up. The place where the two ends meet had severely scratched up, making me think that perhaps the ends lay too close together. (Afterall, it’s very strong metal!) Really though, that’s an aesthetic disappointment, and didn’t affect it’s ability to work.

The fella scratched his head and go, “It’s a bracelet?” and I had to explain to him how it worked (at a stop light, because Ashe Mischief believes in driving safely!).

I wore it on my wrist until we received at our first destination for the evening, P.F. Changs.  As we slid in to our table for two, I noticed there legitimately wasn’t much room for my purse.  So the FUMI got thrown in to action!

A couple of quick twists, and a bit of adjustment, and my bag was hanging from the Pursehook, dangling above the ground.  It was secure, even when I managed to jostle it a few times.  The FUMI pursehook had survived dinner!  Challenge 2… would it work at the stadium?

Unfortunately, through no real fault of its own, the Fumi did not work out at the stadium were we saw the comedy show.  This was simply because we were sitting in padded folding chairs, and the Fumi needed a flat surface to curve around. (Plus the chairs were so short that my bag was still touching the ground with the pursehook’s help.)

FUMI in action! It really is holding up my purse.

If you’re the type of gal who is always on the go, the FUMI may not be a bad investment, especially if you have a collection of designer handbags.  At $24.95, it’s a small cost for protecting and expanding the life of  a $100, $500, $1,000, or more purse.  I’ve used mine multiple times since it’s arrival, and it’s a great way to protect your purse and the contents inside of it.

Updates: Since writing the post, the ladies at FUMI were so sweet to offer me a new FUMI since mine arrived scratched up.   I appreciated that they were concerned about the quality of their product and wanted to ensure my happiness.

Also, in the event it didn’t come across– I’m really growing to love my FUMI pursehook.  I’ve had the chance to use it multiple more times, and each time I’m more convinced of its effectiveness.  Recently, while in a crowded restaurant, I used it to hook the purse next to me, rather than putting it over my seat chair.  This is a great security precaution, as it keeps your purse from being behind your back & in range of roving hands.  It really struck me how useful it was, and I loved having that extra bit of security.

Oh this would be something that would totally work for me. I usually just pull my strap through my leg and let it sit against my leg instead of on the floor. It sounds complicated, when I write it out.So this looks cool and its in zebra print .. awesome!

I hope your nightmares start to dwindle.. I seem to be going to bed later and later to avoid them. Its not fun at all. I love sleep.
