Etsy/Indie Designers: Fun with Fascinators

by Ashe Mischief on March 18, 2009

It’s coming as no surprise to you that I would do an entire post focusing on men and women who make amazing hats, hairpieces, fascinators, and more, is it?

I didn’t think so.

jammer designz, sugar skull hair piece, dia de los muertos hair piece

Jammer Designz creates amazing hair pieces that remind me of New Orleans. A combination of beauty and macabre, featuring Dia de Los Muertos inspired skulls combined with oversized, yet delicate flowers and butterflies, these hair pieces are large statement pieces.

pretty good things, hair fascinators, deer fascinator

It was the gorgeous Mademoiselle Robot who introduced me to the Pretty Good Things shop. Her adorable deer fascinator had me hopping over instantly to the shop. I am SO desperately in love with the lettuce fascinator; I picture it going beautifully with several of my Trashy Diva dresses…

A popular shop, and rightly so!, would be House of Tesla. House of Tesla creates the most stunning headbands and combs using silks, net, and bold rhinestones, to create pieces that are subtle, intricate, and stunning. I love their motto, which is “Life is a special occasion…. accessorize accordingly.”

dainty crochet, dainty crochet by aly

I was ecstatic to see that the gorgeous Aly behind Dainty Crochet was making fascinators now! (I cleverly found out when she sent me two delicate and beautiful pieces… one being in Mardi Gras colors!) I love that Aly’s pieces organically combine feathers, wooden beads, and feathers to create pieces that resemble nature. The last one reminds me of the colors of a tropical island, and I envision myself wearing it in Fiji…

which goose

Last summer, Miss Malaprop sent me a lovely crown from the unimitable whichgoose. With shells, pearls, and peacock feathers, it inspired the arrogant cancerian that I am, and made me feel like a aquatic princess.  The wreaths, crowns, and adornments that whichgoose creates inspires the inner wood nymph in us all.

These are amazing! What a great post!

I’ve noticed, also, how important it is for a seller to have good photos of their products. As much as I love some sellers’ stuff in person, their presentation of their items leaves something to be desired and I rarely buy from them. Ah, the aesthetic of presentation…

I love these! My sister had fascinators made for us for her wedding and I wear it all the time – I’ve been trawling ebay for such a long time looking for more and you found them for me! I believe the phrase is “yoink!”

thanks :)

That deer facinator is…sooo….CUTE! I love it! I like facinators that have little birds and unusual objects tucked into them. I get all of my facinators from http://www.taissaladadesigns.com/ you can get her pieces on ebay for really cheap, and they are very unique and beautiful.

What a great collection. I love that feathers are so in right now and the fascinators and other headpieces you’ve shown are all wonderful. I agree with you – the way Dainty Crochet by Aly mixes colors and textures is stunning. And when it comes to the Which Goose shop–she just nails it every time when it comes to her online presentation. Lovely post!
