Etsy/Indie Designers: Ashes & Empires

by Ashe on June 8, 2009

I was sleuthing around Etsy the other day, to see whether rumors that a renegade corsetmaker-come-spatmaker had really closed up her shoppe (because bad business practices ALWAYS catch up with you), when I came across my newest shop obsession– Ashes & Empires.

While Ashes & Empires has many great accessories, including belts and wristbands, it’s easily their leather spats that make my pulse race.

Ashes and Empires Spats

I can’t even begin to describe what compels me to love this collection– the leather is used to create beautiful, architectural shapes.  The buckles, grommets, and studs seem to playful nod at “toughness,” and overall the spats create an entirely new shoe from what you may be wearing.

Ashes & Empire spats and accessories are also available at Dark Garden Corsetry and on Smashing Darling. Both locations supposedly have exclusive designs– perhaps including these gorgeous Ophelia Spats.

Well, now I’m intrigued. I want to hear more gossip about the bad business practices. Email me if you have to!

I LOVE!!!!

I’ve been looking for spats that are on the more eccentric than literal side of steampunk and these are perfect.

Thanks, Ashe!

I want to hear the chisme (gossip in Spanish) too! But first, OMG! these spats are amazing. I wouldn’t even call them spats – they’re too cute to be synonymous with plain triangles across the tops of your feet. Pure art! I think I need a pair. I get bored with plain black shoes. Thanks for spotting and sharing these Ashe!

I love spats at the monet… I want to learn to knit juts so I can product some lovely warm wollen ones in time for winter.

These ones, however, are stunning. I can see them transforming so many outfits!

Oh, I love those, I could change my spats instead of buying new shoes.

Perfect!
