♥ Employment! That’s right. Since beginning the job hunt in April (and deciding in May to focus my efforts on remaining in Bloomington for a while longer), I have finally found an amazing place to work full-time. It will be in fundraising and development, as an administrative assistant focusing on donor interaction, special events, and a couple of other groups. I’m totally excited that I will be working in a fantastic work environment and with amazing people!
♥ Freedom of the Open Road And another, “That’s right!” At 25 years old, I’ve picked up my (last) permit, and in ownership of my first car! It’s a little 2000 Suzuki Esteem. It runs well, has great pick-up and gas mileage, and I have appropriately named it “Little Car.” And he didn’t cost me a penny!
♥ The DNC Speeches This may be one of the few times I interject my personal politics in to the blog, but goddamn. Michelle Obama’s speech had me in tears within a minute & a half, and it didn’t stop. Coming from that blue collar naval background, with a dad who was always out to sea, I totally related. I’m still catching up on a few of them, but it’s amazing and inspiring and totally filling me with hope and enthusiasm. And oh, Bill Clinton! Oh! Al Gore! You both are so naughty, but in the best way. Both of your speeches left me with a couple of memorable lines, including:
“People the world over have always been more impressed by the power of our example, rather than the example of our power.” — Bill Clinton
“McCain, a man who has earned our respect on many levels is now openly endorsing the policies of the Bush/Cheney White House, and promising to actually continue them. The same policies? Those policies? All over again? Hey, I believe in recycling but that’s ridiculous.” –Al Gore
♥ Kate Moss in Gold: British sculptor Marc Quinn is ready to unveil his latest creation to the world, a nearly $2.8 million, 110-pound solid gold statue of the supermodel, hyped as the largest such creation built since ancient Egypt. I love the historical allusions that the artist makes in this creation, along with the social commentary. It’s intriguing to think that this creation was supposed to represent her Golden Girl Image, but that he believes she doesn’t even live up to the beauty of the creation. I wish wish wish I could go to the British Museum to see this piece!
♥ Union Jack Boots My first pair, my beloved Doc Martens, were purchased in high school. I keep them for sentimental reasons, because Docs don’t always work with my aesthetic now. However, I think these Alexander McQueen booties would be a nice companion to them…
♥ Banksy Doing New Orleans Glee! My favorite city & one of my favorite street artists meet up. I love how he combines events like Hurricane Katrina and Fred “The Grey Ghost” Radtke in to his images. It breaks my heart to think that Radtke may destroy all of these beautiful illustrations before my next visit down south…

♥ & More! Saturday morning Farmer’s Market; Arts & Crafts Fairs; Justin Timberlake/Siouxsie Sioux mash-ups!; Green Chile Cheese Tamales; Kowloon Walled City (too bad it no longer exists!)

Banksy’s in New Orleans? Aw man, I love his work better than most things in the Louvre…
Congrats on the job and car!
There is not much better than the feeling of owning your first car and being able to go anywhere you want. My own doc martens are also tucked away somewhere, why are they so darn hard to get rid of?
