The Dramatis Personae: Those Darling Deschanels…

by Ashe Mischief on August 18, 2008

The faux-beau and I are huge fans of those inimitable Deschanel women– Emily and Zooey and their mother Mary Jo. From Mama Deschanel’s role in Twin Peaks, to the ever lovely Emily in Bones (who is a huge style inspiration to me when it comes to perfecting that business look), and the insatiably quirky Zooey, we just can’t get enough. (I once shushed the faux-beau when She & Him were playing in the supermarket!)

And who can deny that style runs in this family? But beyond that, there seems to be a sense of closeness and mutual affection that runs between these women that is completely delightful…

I love Zooey’s speaking voice, too. Is that weird? haha

@Annie Spandex – Not at all! I love both of their voices, actually. They don’t seem to have the typical “Girl” voice, and I think it adds tons (more) character to them. Zooey has the early inflections of that wonderful whiskey & cigarettes thing going on…

I really don’t know much about the other Deschanels, but I am horribly addicted to Zooey! She’s sooo wonderful and quirky–like you said!

@The Clothes Horse – Throughout this post, I kept wishing I could find a scan of the amazing picture of the three from “In Style.” It’s truly an old school Hollywood family! The father is in film, though the technical side, and he & Mary Jo worked on Twin Peaks. Supposedly the girls grew up on the set. They’re supposedly still a very close family, with the girls living within miles of each other. It’s very sweet, and real, and not too over the top.

That red dress with the black tie is my probably my favorite Zooey outfit ever. The girl can do no wrong in my eyes. Did you ever see her guest star in Weeds? She was so funny and charming.
