Naturally, it feels like Michelle Obama is a bit of an odd choice to highlight as a Dramatis Personae. Her style is impeccable, but does it personify the Ashe Mischief spirit?
Yes, I think it does. Rather that focus on the whimsical or quirky-chic, I think that Michelle Obama’s style focuses on different elements that Ashe Mischief approves of. Hugely, being a role model to EVERY woman, and showing that style and excessive spending do not have to go hand-in-hand.
Earlier this year she took the world by storm in a Donna Ricco dress she bought from White House/Black Market for $148 (though there are online sources that have it cheaper). This dress took the fashion market by storm, as women realized that “Hey, I can be as classy as the next First Lady, without breaking the bank.”
How in the world does Michelle one-up herself? By recently showing up, ever so stylish and chic, in an H&M Dress.
I love that she has a way of looking dignified and sophisticated, while still showing some flair and fun in her choices. And something I’m looking more and more in to myself– having a limited color palette to work with. Michelle often is shown in various shades of the same colors: teals and orchid purples combined with grey/white/blacks — they work beautifully on her, and it shows she not only knows her style and owns her style.

And when you think she can’t get any better…
She still manages to insert some whimsy and funk in to a presidential campaign…

Purple feathers! Love!

Playful patterns, and best of all…

Neck Ruffles!
Michelle Obama is taking the legacy that Jackie O. built for women and that French First Lady Carla Sarkozy has injected new energy in to, which is seeing the First Lady as a style symbol, a strength of all great things about womanhood, and is building her own legacy upon it. Her legacy will be a testament to her blue-collar background, her relationship to the Average Jane, and her ability to show that class, style, and inspiration can rise above all.

The neck ruffles are my favorite.
Don’t forget her stint on Jay Leno last night where she said the outfit she was wearing was from Banana Republic. She’s class on a dime all the way!
I meant J Crew!
@WendyB – Mine, too! I may try to see if I can conjure up a similar effect on a blouse…
@Beka – I love it! She makes fashion so accessible and does it all so easily…
It just goes to show that a truly fashionable woman can wear just about anything and look great!
