I have a confession to make:
I’m in love with men who don’t exist.

To really stay engaged and hooked in to a show, I have to have huge mushy girly raging crushes on at least one of the male characters. (Though in rare instances, such as The West Wing, I had raging crushes on a couple of the men.)
So in honor of Friday, the inability to think, I bring to you…

I Love Someone Who Doesn’t Exist…

Topping my list is the one and only Josh “Lemon” Lyman, the Jewish wisecracking workaholic from The West Wing. Of my many television crushes, I think Josh has been the longest lasting. From the sexual tension in his relationship with his assistant Donna, to getting shot in season 1, my affection for him knows no bounds.

Coming in at a very close second is the infamous Mr. Big from Sex and the City. While there are many men on SatC who are endearing in their own rights, it’s always been Mr. Big for me. And Mr. Big does some deplorable things throughout the series of the show, but his charm and genuine efforts (particularly in the last season) have always made him a man after my own heart. (That could also be my love of bad boys with hearts of gold.)

Speaking of bad boys with a heart of gold… how can I not love Dean Winchester, the hellbound hottie brought back to Earth by the forces of Heaven? A lover of cheap beer, cheap hotels, raunchy language, and porn, coupled with a dirty sense of humor and a heart melting smile, what isn’t there for me to love?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is another show whose many men stole my heart. From Xander to Oz, and the deliciously devilish Spike, there’s many a man to love! However, I have to give this one to Giles. Seen as stuffy and old-fashioned his first few seasons, Giles quickly becomes one of the most intriguing characters on the show. A man willing to don facial hair to corduroy elbows on his blazers, a fatherly figure who has a personal life and yet, can still kill a man with his bare hands. Giles is the ultimate Renaissance man, when brawn and beauty and brains are rolled in to one.

A delivish wit, a mind sharper than a scalpel, political and sexual incorrectness, and an arrogance that puts Nero to shame. Let me introduce you to my lover, Dr. House. What’s most amazing above the aforementioned qualities, loved above his sneaker collection and rock t-shirts, is how much I would respect him if he actually were my doctor. Maybe this makes me a masochistic patient, but I’d willingly let House give me a shot of love.

Honorable Mentions: Seely Booth (Bones); Henry (Ugly Betty); Dexter Morgan (Dexter); Gordon Ramsay (he’s not fictional, but that’s okay); Sam Merlotte (TrueBlood).

How about you all, cher? Is there any fictional man who gets your blood hot and bothered?

I agree with this so much! I’m completely head-over-heels for Dr House too, and I’ve recently totally fallen for the new character in Spooks (MI-5 in the ‘States I believe), Lucas North, he’s beautiful and adorably emotionally damaged (I think I may have issues)!

Dexter too, Dexter’s totally hot!

Oh, Dr. House. He’s so scrumptious.

I would DEFINITELY have to say Spike. Giles had his sexy-ish moments, but oh man. Rawr. Spike. *drools* Actually, Spike is really the only one that comes to mind. Oh, Simon from Firefly/Serenity is another one. Joss Whedon sure can make a man, amirite?

At this very moment I am rewatching (for the nth time) season 2 of Buffy. Giles has always been my secret crush. Oz was cool, Xander funny, Angel brooding and Spike so Rock and Roll, but secretly Gile’s intelligence, plus his secret rock and roll youth stole my heart!

Josh + Donna fo-ever… lol!
My crushes stick to real people, but really, is there a difference? Mr. Big and Benecio Del Toro are pretty much equally unattainable. ;D

Believe me, I am the queen of TV boy crushes. It all began with Zack Morris when I was little. I am all about Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl now. And, of course Jim Halpert from The Office. Let’s not forget JD from Scrubs. Yeah, with the exception of Chuck, I always like goofy guys.

@Vixel - I’m not sure I’m familiar with this MI-5– but I’ll definitely look up the actor!

@Michelle - Joss Whedon definitely makes great male characters! (Though sometimes I want to gripe about his female ones…) I have to admit, I really waver a lot between Giles and Spike, especially the later seasons of Buffy (and the Angel seasons). Once he has a soul, he’s just so much more intriguing!

@Retro Chick - You have the perfect breakdown of the guys on Buffy– I can’t agree more with how you categorized them! I was kind of happy when Wesley (on Angel) followed the gruff and rugged path of Giles… it made him infinitely more interesting!

@Annie Spandex - You’re totally right!

@Beka - Oh, Zack Morris…how any girl had a crush on Slater when Zack was around, I don’t know! I think my first may have been Ted on “Hey Dude.”

Oh, you already know this, but I love Josh too. I also agree with House.

I didn’t like Mr. Big much, though I kind of have a soft spot for Harry. Odd enough?

For Buffy, I liked Oz the best, but Spike was good too. And Doyle from Season 1 of Angel (so sad).

Charlie from Lost. Jeremy on Sports Night. Logan on Veronica Mars.

Don’t even get me started on movie crushes.

I totally agree. It all started with Tommy from Power Rangers and progressed from there. I’m also a sucker for Adrian Grenier so I watch Entourage religiously, and got hooked on True Blood because Sam Merlotte sort of looked like a guy I was quasi “with” and it made me half giddy half nauseous depending on how I felt about the guy that week.

Ha ha! I love that Chelsea Rae brought up Tommy from Power Rangers because I was all about him. Lately my dream man has been Ned from Pushing Daisies. (Tear) I was also obsessed with Agent Cooper from Twin Peaks.
