The Ultimate New Year's Resolution
As dictated by the Manolo (he is full of the wisdom, you know).
And thus the Manolo only has one standing New Year’s Resolutions:
Make the world more super fantastic.
Be kinder to strangers you meet on the street. Tip waitresses generously. Smile at small children and dogs, even when they are naughty. Have the kind word for shop girls and cab drivers. Engage random strangers in pleasant conversations about growing flowers, and your last trip to the circus. Resist the urge to use your walking stick to pummel rude people who talk loudly on cell phones.
These are the sort of small things that make the world the better place, and contribute to social harmony and understanding. Even better, they are painless and pleasant, and make others happy.
Thank you, Une Femme for reminding me of this lovely resolution.

I think that's pretty much what I did in 2007 and the world kicked my ass and used me like a doormat. Everyone else's life was better and mine sucked. Handle that resolution with care.

Wendy-- I do know what you mean. At work I did my best to be compliant, efficient, only to be told I was too apologetic and inefficient. I try to respect my friends, value their work, and they snap at me for not bending to their needs more.
I think there is a delicate balance between being selfish & a bitch, and giving the world some back. And maybe the world won't necessarily respond well to goodness, but eff that. In the end, I remind myself I grew up in the South, and I will wave at my neighbors and cars driving by, I will open the door for strangers, because it's the right thing for me to do.

ps. I should also add, I'm sorry that people respond so poorly and used you so much. You're a sincerely lovely person, and as far as blogging goes, I'm always glad to have somewhat met up with you. I hope you keep it up in 2008, and I hope you get the gratitude and respect you deserve.

i think the key might be just giving love without expectations... it's really the hardest thing to do, but it's true that the world doesn't owe us anything, it's our responsibility to make it a better place.

Oh, thank you Ashe. Phew, I read this just in time. It was in my calendar today to start acting atrociously!
